Caravaggio on show in Moscow: 3 paintings on loan to Pushkin Museum from FEC

hree paintings by Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio belonging to the Religious Buildings Foundation (Fec) of the Italian Ministry of the Interior are on show at the State Museum of Fine Arts ‘A.S. Pushkin’ in Moscow.
The three-month exhibition is the culmination of the Italian-Russian year of cultural exchange and the most comprehensive display of Caravaggio's works ever held abroad, featuring 11 paintings by the Baroque Lombard master (1571 – 1610) on loan to the Moscow museum from the Italian and Vatican museums.
The paintings belonging to the cultural and artistic heritage administered by Fec on show are: ‘Saint Francis in meditation’ originally painted for San Pietro church in Carpineto Romano (Rm) and now hosted by the National Gallery of Ancient Art in Barberini Palace in Rome; ‘The Conversion of Sain. Paul’ from Santa Maria del Popolo church in Rome; ‘The Flagellation of Christ’ from Capodimonte Museum in Naples, originally painted for San Domenico Maggiore church.
Since its opening on 26 November, the unprecedented exhibition devoted to the early 17th-century Italian painter has attracted a great number of Baroque enthusiasts, with more than 6,550 visitors registered over the early two days.
