Entry visa for Italy: all types defined by law
The Interministrial Decree of 11.5.2011 introducing visa categories, along with the requirements and conditions to be met, was published in the Official Gazette. Unaccompanied minors are also required to carry a notarised letter of authority from a parent or guardian stating they can expatriateThe Interministrial Decree of 11th May 2011 introducing the different types of entry visa that third-country nationals may need to enter Italy, as well as the requirements and the conditions for granting them, as specified in Annex A, was published in the Official Gazette no. 280 on 1st December 2011.
According to article 1 of the Decree, visa categories designed for various purposes are as follows: adoption, business, medical treatment, diplomatic, accompanying family member, sports competitions, invitation, self-employment, subordinate employment, mission, religious grounds, re-entry, elective residence, joining family member, study, airport transit, transit, transport, tourism, work-holidays, volunteering.
Unaccompanied foreign minors, qualifying for one of the above entry visa types, are required to submit a notarised letter of authority from a parent or legal guardian stating they can expatriate, issued under the laws of the State of their residence, to the diplomatic/consular authorities.
Entry of foreign children into the national territory within the framework of temporary reception programmes based on human solidarity must also be authorised by the Committee for Foreign Minors (as envisaged by article 33 of Legislative Decree no. 286/1998).
